For Bobby

Hi There. Just a couple things to tease you for the weekend. Going to see, "Semi-Pro" this weekend and I will have a review on Monday. Also good luck to the Marathon Dancers in SGF. Finally if you're baseball fan no matter what team you root for, take a moment to say a prayer for Yankee broadcaster and former player Bobby Murcer. He's one of the good guys, and in light of the black cloud that has been growing over the game recently; we need the Bobby Murcers' to remind how much fun baseball is. Have a good one...Leccese out.

Midweek Musings

Now that we've dug out from the 12+ inches of snow we received, I want to bring up the South High Marathon Dance which is this weekend. If you can support these great kids in what they're doing raising money and helping the community. Please do. I have two Marathon Dance memories. The first one being one year Dan Miner, myself and some other co-workers going over there and waking up the kids, hanging out and having some breakfast. The other one involves Dave Thomas and a trip to the Sport-o-rama in Monsey. That year the Bulldog hockey team won their first Section 2 title and we went to call the regional game against Clarkstown North. We get set up and the person who ran the studio for the game informs us that they're airing it in the gym while the dance is going on. Talk about the added pressure. It ranks up there in my top 5 favorite play by play moments. Hoping to check out the new Wil Ferrell movie "Semi-Pro" when it opens Friday. Expect a review in a future blog. One more thing. Got to wish Johnny "Max" McDonnell a Happy Birthday on Friday. He was born February 29th Got to do more shoveling...Leccese out

Weekend Observations

Hi There. Hope you survived the weekend. Mine started with the annual trip to Hudson Valley Community College to watch some sectional basketball. North Warren looked good against Ft. Ann and could Hadley Luzerne be the local Cinderella team this year after beating Whitehall? Brandon Emery and Kevin Mitchell are a good pair but they'll have their hands full against Germantown on Wed. Sunday was the hockey final between Qby and GF. It was the usual back and forth battle with the Spartans winning 4 - 2 on two Kevin Corbett goals after GF had tied the score. Eric Shipley scored a beautiful goal by making a sweet move on Anthony Soprano then putting the puck past Pat Murphy. There's nothing better than seeing a well played hockey game at the Civic Center. I've got to ask, did anyone actually go to a theater and pay to watch the movies that were nominated in the best picture category at the Academy Awards? If Anthony Bourdain is hosting a paint drying contest I would watch. His show "No Reservations" on the Travel Channel is the best. Finally, I caught up on some magazine reading and Daniella Sarahyba reminds me of a cross between Cheryl Tiegs and Christie Brinkley. The gene pool has been very kind to her. Leccese out

We are ready for launch

Hello,

Welcome to the very first entry in the "Greenhouse Effect." This little thing I will do every couple of days is mainly to keep you informed, make you laugh and think about some of the absurdities of life as we know it. Of course sports will be a BIG part of it, but there will be other observations to keep you off guard. Like how this blog got called the "Greenhouse Effect" in the first place. I thought about calling it, "The 40 year old Virgin" but it had already been used. Seriously though since my nickname is the "Garden Boy," it just made sense. Look forward to hearing from you down the road.
