The Leccese Curse reared its ugly head and has been on a rampage as of late

Hi there. I don't what I did, but "The Leccese Curse" has been on a reign of terror lately. Just ask the Redwings and Roy Halladay. The Wings lose a 7th game on home ice and Roy Halladay now has an achy breaky groin. Not good stuff.
Lets get this over with now. Note to Gary Bettman and David Stern. The genie in the bottle granted your wish. Teams led by two big superstars who are the faces of your respective leagues won championships. Now go away til September.
The only thing I'm taking from this weekends' subway series between the Mets and Yankees is that Luis Castillo is a stand up guy. He has taken so much crap from everybody since joining the Mets, he's needed a manure spreader. After his case of the dropsy's Friday night, instead of hiding from the media, he stood up and faced the music like a man. That took guts and his teammates were right beside him to back him up.
For all you nay sayers who don't like interleague play in MLB, go tell the NFL they shouldn't play interconference games. I like it. It's an interesting diversion over a long 162 game season. I do think the Mets and Yankees shouldn't play each other 6 times though. 3 games is more than enough.
The U.S Open Golf championship is this weekend and my one thought is this. Public course or no public course, Bethpage Black is not the typical muni that I usually play at.
I don't what is more dumber. Letterman's feud with Sarah Palin or the fact he had Howard Stern on as a guest.
One good thing came out of late night television. Jimmy Fallon has been on this crusade to have a "Saved by the Bell" cast reunion. Mark-Paul Gosselaar came on the show and reprised his role as Zack Morris while at the same time promoting his new show "Raising the Bar." If you haven't seen the segment, it was brilliant and just laugh out loud funny. Check it out on YouTube. Great Stuff. Now Jimmy, we're overdue for that Barry Gibb Talk Show segment with Justin Timberlake if you don't mind.
Former President George Bush celebrated his 85th birthday by doing a tandem sky dive jump. If you ask me, there must be a lot more safer and easier ways to spend some quality time with HLN's Robin Meade than strapping on a parachute and bailing out of an airplane from a couple of thousand feet up. Couldn't you just go to a coffee shop and buy the girl a latte, cappuccino or some mocha java thing and share a biscotti or other kind of pastry?
It happened, Carrie Prejean got axed as Miss California. The PC police have won again.
Speaking of also finally happening, the Falcons released Michael Vick. So what took so you guys so long?
Since I wasn't there in person, I get the impression that the Treasure Chest festivities were missing one thing. Rod Serling and his opening to the "Twilight Zone." You know, "submitted for your approval..."Pete must have been thinking that after the events of the evening transpired and his heart and pulse returned to normal.
Update on the Cap'n Crunch lawsuit that was thrown out in a California court. The idiot attorney who filed it, is planning on appealing to a higher court.
With high school graduations taking place this week and a lot of athletes going on to college hopefully to continue to play the sports they love, there is one kid I'll miss seeing play next year. Jake Nelson from Lake George. Whenever we'd do a Lake George football or basketball game, somehow Jake and I would find the time to say hello and talk before or after a game. Here are my favorite words of wisdom to the high school graduates who are going off to college. Work hard, stay out of trouble and treasure these next two to four years. You'll have plenty of time in the daily grind known as the real world. The time will fly. Trust me, there are lots of days when I wish I was still 19 or 20 years old.
Happy Birthday Miner...Leccese out

Ken,
First of all, I love the blog. It's a great mix of sports and pop culture references. Keep up the good work.
But I have to ask you, as a sports aficionado and a resident of a part of the country where hockey is well respected, hows about a little more props to the Penguins franchise and what they were able to accomplish 2 weeks ago?
Beating the Red Wings 4 out of the last 5, with game 7 in Joe Louis, to take the Cup is nothing short of magical. Especially considering the Pens had lost to Detroit last year, and with one of their best players, Hossa, now wearing Red & White. I think Barry Melrose put it best when he said it was the "best game in the NHL in 20 or 30 years". Down 2-0, down 3-2, and they come back and win. The only disappointing part is Mike Lange's less than spectacular call of the final 5 seconds of game 7. Who knows, maybe Mike got choked up with the rest of us.
If you can't give it up for the Pens because of Crosby, then think of what Mario Lemieux has done in his 25 year affiliation with the club. The Pens were headed out of town in 1984 when Lemieux was drafted. He becomes the best player in hockey, wins multiple Hart, Ross, Smythe, and Stanley Cup trophies. He sits out 30 games and wins a scoring title. He beats cancer. He retires and takes a significant ownership stake in lieu of millions of dollars still owed to him from an old Howard Baldwin era contract. He pulls the team back from the brink of bankruptcy in 1999, and then comes out of retirement 2 days after Christmas in 2000 and scores a goal against the Leafs that still echoes throughout the rafters in Mellon Arena. Then, he narrowly saves the team again in 2007 when once again the moving trucks are lined up and ready to move the team to a brand new, rent-free arena in K.C. He drafts the future of the franchise and puts him up in his palacial digs just outside of Pittsburgh. (Think Janet Gretzky would have allowed that?) And, he sticks around to play a season with the future team captain. Lemieux to Crosby.... still gives chills.
Think of what Lemieux has meant as a player, owner, and overall ambassador for hockey in Pittsburgh and throughout the league. Think of what he has endured as a player and an owner. Watch the clip of him at the end of game 7, teary eyed in his box at Joe Louis, hugging Nathalie. You might not like the Pens, but try to show a little respect for a guy who has made Pittsburgh in to a place where the Pens victory parade actually outdrew the Steelers victory parade!
Hoist that cup, Sir Mario Lemieux.... you have certainly earned it.

P.S.
I better see your butt at Fripp this year! Morgan says 'hi'.
